Lauren Prado: COP OR DROP?

December 5, 2019 - March 5, 2020

This exhibition was curated by the Student Curatorial Committee.

Lauren Prado’s exhibition, COP OR DROP?, is curated by members of the Student Curatorial Committee. The show includes larger than life needlepoint illustrations of shoes, made out of materials that are accessible to all. The illustrations speak to the role of shoes as idealized symbols of status. The scale of and number of works speak to the everyday persistence of being marketed to in our technology dependent lives. And I mean...come on, tell us you don’t want those new shoes you saw online today?

Born and raised in sunny California, Lauren Prado spends most of her free time sewing. Prado uses fiber, yarn, and needles to create representations of digital products that flood our online feeds. Prado was a high school teacher for three years, and that experience largely influenced her interest in pop culture and the millennial lifestyle that centers on technology, online presence, and self-presentation.
